The search for the new Batman is a hot topic, especially since the DC Universe is looking to cast a fresh face for the superhero following Ben Affleck’s exit from the franchise. Jake Gyllenhaal found himself at the center of the casting rumors during a recent chat with Screen Rant, where he opened up about the idea of stepping into the Dark Knight’s shoes.
When asked about his interest in the role, especially after his physical part in Prime Video’s ‘Road House,’ Gyllenhaal said:
“Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor. Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in ‘Othello’ with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that.”
He continued:
“So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”
The Ongoing Rumors About The DCU Cast
Gyllenhaal’s initial comments about possibly playing Batman caught the attention of many fans, leading to further discussions about the topic at the ‘Road House’ premiere in NYC. The actor told Extra:
“One interview… I knew it… Someone asked me and… Of course, I would be flattered. Anyone would be.”
The ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ actor was once considered for the role of Batman in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy before Christian Bale was ultimately chosen.
Currently, Robert Pattinson is playing Batman, with ‘The Batman Part II’ expected to release in October 2026. There’s talk of casting a new face for DCU’s‘The Brave And The Bold,’ although it hasn’t started yet since the script still isn’t finished.
Other actors like John Krasinski, Jensen Ackles, and Alan Ritchson are also being considered by fans to play the Dark Knight.
