Jessie Cave Responds To Miriam Margolyes’ Diss Against Adult Harry Potter Fans: ‘It’s A Shame’

Margolyes says fans should let go of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. Cave disagrees.

Jessie Cave recently talked about Miriam Margolyes’ thoughts about adult ‘Harry Potter’ fans during an appearance at Dream it Con. She shared:

“It’s such a shame that that happened. You know how she is — she’s just a bit funny. And I think she didn’t mean for it to be taken like that, I hope. I really don’t like that she said that.”

Cave played Lavender Brown in the franchise. She started with ‘The Half-Blood Prince’ in 2009 and also appeared in the last two films.

Miriam Margolyes’ Controversial Opinion

Margolyes portrayed Professor Pomona Sprout in ‘The Chamber Of Secrets’ in 2002. She came back for ‘The Deathly Hallows — Part 2’ in 2011.

The actress’ comments about the film series’ adult fans caused a stir in recent weeks. Her words to New Zealand’s 1News read:

“I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now. It was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children. They get stuck in it. I do Cameos, and people say, ‘We’re having a Harry Potter-themed wedding, and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. No.”

Reactions Couldn’t Change Her Mind

Margolyes didn’t back down despite the backlash on social media. She later talked to Australia’s ABC ‘News Breakfast’ about the matter and said:

“I’m not unhappy about it. I just think that it’s for children. And if your balls have dropped, then it’s time to forget about it. You know, go on to other things.”

The actress said she was proud to be a part of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise and thought the films were ‘great.’ But she added that it was a long time ago and people needed to ‘grow up.’
