Jonathan Nolan Confirms: ‘Fallout’ Is The TV Show Version Of ‘Barbenheimer’

The new Amazon Prime Video series debuted on April 10.

The ‘Fallout’ red carpet premiere took place in Los Angeles on April 9. Director and producer Jonathan Nolan talked about the show’s vibe in an interview with Vulture during the event. He commented:

“Last year, there were a couple of moments when we felt like we accidentally made ‘Barbenheimer: The Show.’”

The post-apocalyptic drama was adapted from Bethesda Softworks’ role-playing game franchise of the same name. Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet penned the script.

It’s Like A Crossover

‘Fallout’ follows Lucy as she comes out from The Vault into the real world 200 years after a nuclear attack. The plot shares common points with Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie.’

That’s why ETimes recently asked Jonathan if his show was a long-awaited crossover between the biographical thriller and fantasy comedy. The director said:

“It may be.”

He detailed:

“It’s funny. We started developing ‘Fallout’ four or five years ago. We sat down with Todd Howard and played and loved the games, mainly for their unique tone. This is a mashup of dark, violent and political, but also whimsical, funny, gonzo, and weird. You kind of have something for everyone.”

Jonathan Nolan directed three of the eight episodes of ‘Fallout.’ The series features Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins in lead roles.
