Mark Gatiss wants to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.
Gatiss told Deadline that he hopes to bring back the series as a movie, but there is still a big issue lying ahead:
“We’d like to make a film, but trying to get everyone together is very difficult. You’ll have to ask Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman].”
This Idea Isn’t New
Gatiss said last year that turning ‘Sherlock’ into a film seems like a natural next step after the TV show. He also explained how hard it is to get a movie project started:
“People think you can just wave a wand. It’s incredibly difficult to get people interested and get films made. But, also, we were genuinely interested in making them for TV because we love TV. We would love to make a ‘Sherlock’ movie. It’s the natural thing to do.”
He then recalled a chat he had with Edgar Wright:
“I remember talking to Edgar Wright about ‘Ant-Man,’ into which he put eight years of his life and then didn’t make. Eight years is not short of a decade. Add a few of those up; you’re dead, and you’ve made four films.”
Gatiss is working on a new TV show called ‘Bookish.’ This series is about a smart and unusual detective named Gabriel Book. It’s set right after World War II and will show on the UKTV crime network Alibi.
‘Sherlock’ is currently available to stream on Hulu.
