Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn Reveals Why Skyler White Is A Fan-Favorite Now

Once hated for blocking her husband’s plans, Skylar is now seen as the moral voice of the show.

Anna Gunn noticed a big change in how fans feel about Skyler White.

Viewers didn’t like Skyler when ‘Breaking Bad’ was first on TV because she often got in the way of Walter White and his plans to build a drug empire. But Gunn says things are different now.

The actress claims fans started to realize that maybe Walter was the real bad guy, and Skyler was actually trying to do the right thing. She told The Hollywood Reporter that people now see Skyler as the moral center of the show:

“When people come up to me, it’s incredibly different … There’s still a long way to go, but we have made seismic changes since then. So people come up to me now and say, ‘You were the linchpin for me. You were the conscience of the show. You were what pulled me into the show.’ Or they say, ‘The first time I watched it, I hated that character. But the second time I watched it, I realized, ‘Oh my God, that poor woman.'”

Gunn Didn’t Know Everybody Hated Skyler

Gunn says she didn’t even know people hated her character because she wasn’t using social media much. She was surprised when she found out, and some fans were really mean and unfair. The actress wrote about this in The New York Times in 2013:

“I just had to go through that ring of fire, for lack of a better phrase, to understand that a lot of it was, frankly, misogynistic. A lot of it was the way that female characters were treated, and I think we’ve come a long way since then. If I may call them my sisters, I’m really proud of all the actresses who’ve spoken up and continued to pave the way and created their own antihero characters for themselves.”

Gunn joined other ‘Breaking Bad’ actors on stage this February to celebrate 10 years since the show’s last season at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Gunn is acting in a new show on Apple TV+ called ‘Sugar.’ The show started on April 5 and also stars Colin Farrell and Dennis Boutsikaris.
