It’s Now Official: Nicolas Cage Will Star In Spider-Man Noir Live-Action Series

The show, coming to Prime Video and MGM+, is set in 1930s New York.

Nicolas Cage is officially set to star as Spider-Man Noir in a new live-action series called “Noir.”

Cage’s casting announcement was made just before Amazon’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York. Vernon Sanders, the head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, said he’s excited to bring the series to Prime Video:

“Expanding the Marvel universe with ‘Noir’ is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers. The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”

Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, also praised Cage’s acting talent:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character. Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”

Cage said in March that he loves the character, and there have been talks about making ‘Noir’ happen.

‘Noir’ Will Take Place in a Way Different Setting

Nicolas Cage previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in the animated movie ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ He will now play the same character in this live-action version. The story takes place in 1930s New York City, where Cage’s character is an older, grizzled superhero who also works as a private investigator.

‘Noir’ will feature dark, noir-themed versions of classic Spider-Man villains such as Kraven, The Chameleon, and Venom. The show will be available on MGM+ in the United States and then globally on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot are the co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who all worked on ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Killing Eve’ director Harry Bradbeer will direct the first two episodes and serve as an executive producer.

‘Noir’ has been in development since last year. Another project named ‘Silk: Spider Society‘ is also in the works.
