‘It’s Embarrassing’: Sophie Turner Says Somebody Should’ve Got Fired For ‘Game Of Thrones’ Coffee Cup Fail

A coffee cup forgotten in a scene in the medieval fantasy drama went viral on the internet and reportedly caused problems on set.

A disposable coffee cup appeared in plain view during a scene in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Episode 4 in 2019. Sophie Turner recently looked back on the mistake while blindly taste testing British takeout for British Vogue. She shared:

“I think it was slightly embarrassing that none of us noticed it. It was quite glaringly obvious.”

The Error Caused A Heated Controversy

HBO Max digitally removed the cup two days after the episode aired, but the scene still turned into a meme on the internet. Meanwhile, tension arose on set. Turner recalled:

“It caused quite a bit of controversy on set, actually. We were all kind of pointing fingers at each other and it kind of turned into like a game of ‘[The] Traitors.’ Somebody should have got fired for that one.”

Who Left The Cup On The Table?

Max still tried to make light of the situation on social media. It wrote about the cup placed in front of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen:

“The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”

Turner also blamed the Mother of Dragons actress for the mistake at first and then turned her finger to Kit Harrington, but Clarke later told Jimmy Fallon that Varys actor Conleth Hill admitted to being responsible.
