Peter Dinklage’s ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Remake Is Unreleasable

A report says the movie may never be seen in theaters.

‘The Toxic Avenger’ remake ran into serious trouble.

According to a report from World of Reel, the movie is considered ‘unreleasable.’ A producer told World of Reel that the film’s commercial prospects are too unusual for a regular theatrical release:

“If it had great reviews then maybe the forecast would be a little rosier, but there isn’t much potential. It’s too niche. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it on Tubi a few years from now.”

This means the movie may end up on a streaming service or go straight to Video on Demand (VOD).

The Reason May Be Gory Details

‘The Toxic Avenger’ is about Winston Gooze. He is a janitor who transforms into The Toxic Avenger after a toxic accident. With super-human strength and a glowing mop as his weapon, he must save his son and stop a corporate villain from using toxic superpowers for evil.

Filmmaker and producer Adam Masnyk confirmed on X that the film was deemed ‘not safe enough to market.’ There is even a chance it could become ‘lost media,’ so it may never be widely seen:

“This is factual. This is what we — I work in movie product licensing — were officially told as well regarding it.”

‘The Toxic Avenger’s gory content is likely a big part of the problem, as it seems too risky for traditional release methods.

The first teaser trailer for the movie came out last October, and the film received mostly positive reviews from various film festivals. It currently has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 24 reviews. Still, there are no plans for ‘The Toxic Avenger’ to hit theaters anytime soon.
