Robert Downey Jr. Is Rumored To Play Doctor Doom As A Part Of His MCU Return

An alternate Tony Stark may appear as Doctor Doom in ‘The Fantastic Four.’

Film critic Jeff Sneider recently claimed that Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man might return in the new ‘The Fantastic Four’ despite his death at the end of the Infinity Saga. Sneider said the insiders denied such idea but shared:

“Speaking of Doctor Doom, there’s still no word yet about his casting in ‘Fantastic Four,’ as insiders denied my inquiry about Robert Downey Jr., who I was told might come back as an alternate-universe Tony Stark who becomes Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man. It seems far-fetched, yes, but I figured that if there was any hope of Downey coming back, there’d have to be a new wrinkle for him to play. So, for now, we continue to wait…”

The critic’s inquiry seems to be based on Marvel’s ‘Infamous Iron Man.’ Victor Von Doom served as Iron Man in the 2016 comic run by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev.

The villain reportedly has no major role in ‘The Fantastic Four’ at the moment, but the film may include a cameo from him to set his future in the MCU.

Iron Man May Return With Other Heroes

Meanwhile, RDJ is willing to return to the MCU to as Iron Man. The actor told Variety in June:

“It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea.”

Kevin Feige made it clear that Tony Stark would remain dead to respect his sacrifice in ‘Endgame.’ Still, it’s possible to see his variants in future projects with the Multiverse Saga underway.

Iron Man can be one of the 60 characters rumored to come back in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ along with Scarlet Witch. Disney+’s ‘Agatha All Along’ will set the stage for Wanda Maximoff’s return this September, according to insiders.
