‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Reflects On Fan Hate: ‘I Hope They Know I’m An Actor’

The Ramsay Bolton actor shares the fan reactions he got after ‘Game of Thrones.’

Peacock’s new series ‘Those About to Die’ started on July 18, featuring Iwan Rheon and Sara Mantis as lead actors. Rheon talked about the epic sword-and-sandal in a recent chat with CBR.

While mentioning the similarities between the Peacock show and ‘Game of Thrones,’ the actor reflected on how his role in the latter affected fans’ approach to him:

“People generally know that I’m an actor, I hope. Yeah, people go, ‘Yeah, I hate you, you bastard,’ but it’s always a bit tongue in cheek. I don’t really get [any trouble]. But other people, maybe they don’t speak to me, because I suppose if you really thought I was the character, you wouldn’t come up to me and talk to me. Because you really don’t want to talk to someone like Ramsay Bolton. It’s a risky business.”

Similar Role, Similar Show

Ramsay Bolton became one of the most hated antagonists in ‘Game of Thrones’ alongside Joffrey Baratheon after his 5-season run. Rheon took on a similar role in ‘Those About to Die,’ though he has a better side, this time.

Director Roland Emmerich admitted to taking inspirations from the HBO show while making the Peacock series. The lead actor reflected on that:

“There’s less dragons in our show, but obviously there’s a dynastic struggle at the very heart of our story, and there are rich families vying for power, and there’s all that kind of stuff, but it’s based on history, so it’s a very different thing.”

He added:

“It has to be as spectacular as ‘Game of Thrones’ was, in terms of visually, it’s going to be the same kind of ambition, to put something very spectacular on frame. And we have so many different and complex characters in that sense.”

You can find ‘Those About to Die’ on Peacock and Prime Video.
