Robert Downey Jr. Sets One Condition To Return As Doctor Doom According To New Report

The actor had a few requests before agreeing to a comeback.

Marvel announced Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ last weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. Variety recently reported that the actor accepted the role only on the condition of having the Russo brothers to direct. An insider told the outlet:

“They were the only ones he would work with.”

Downey also asked for a private jet, his own security team, and his personal space on set during filming. Reports suggested that his payment for the upcoming films could go over $80 million, as well, marking the highest of his career.

The Actor Wanted To Return For A Long Time

RDJ’s last appearance in the MCU came when his Tony Stark died at the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ He showed interest in returning to the role in the following years, and said in a June interview with Variety:

“It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea.”

When he revealed himself to the crowd at Comic-Con 2024, the actor commented:

“New mask, same task. What can I say, I like playing complicated characters.”

Ahead of the new ‘Avengers’ films, Marvel will release other projects. 2025 will welcome ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ ‘Thunderbolts*,’ ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ and ‘Blade.’
