David Castañeda Defends ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Ending, ‘I’m Proud Of It’

The Netflix show concluded with its Season 4 in early August.

David Castañeda shared his thoughts on ‘The Umbrella Academy’ finale during an appearance on the ‘I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario’ podcast.

“When [I got] the pages, I was kind of hoping they were dummy sides,” the actor recalled (per The Hollywood Reporter). “[But I’m] very proud of how this whole thing played out. I’m really happy with the work that we all did during Season 4.”

Castañeda played Diego Hargreeves, one of the seven children with special abilities adopted by Reginald Hargreeves to form a superhero team. Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min joined him as Viktor, Luther, Allison, Klaus, Five, and Ben Hargreeves.

The first three seasons of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ received high approval on Rotten Tomatoes, holding ratings above 7/10. But the final season got a rating of only 5.8/10, with critics saying the ending felt rushed.

Tom Hopper hinted at how the finale could turn out during a chat with ComicBook before Season 4’s release.

“I think there’s going to definitely be some things that you already love,” he said. “These siblings, I feel like one big reason that the show’s become a hit, is because people have fallen in love with the siblings, and their relationship with each other and how fun that is… There is an ending, which I believe is a complete ending. I don’t think fans will be disappointed with how it ends.”

While the TV show has concluded, there’s more ‘The Umbrella Academy’ content on the horizon. Gabriel Bá recently confirmed working on a new comic book, though the release date remains uncertain.
