‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ brought back most of the original cast from the 1988 movie 36 years later, while also adding new faces, including Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, and Justin Theroux. Bellucci recently opened up about her character on the sequel’s press day.
“Delores is so interesting because for me, she has this duality: she’s dangerous, she’s also funny—and she’s a metaphor for life,” she told ComicBook. “Because we all have emotional scars, and she’s full of scars [literally], but she’s strong, she’s coming back, she’s fighting, she’s looking for vengeance.”
The trailers for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ showed Dolores on an obsessive pursuit of her dead husband in a Frankenstein-like appearance.
“This moment where she puts herself together is a very strong scene because it took two or three days to film it, and I tried to play it like a broken doll—I felt like a mime. And I had to learn an entire choreography, but it was so much fun,” the actress shared about filming her part.
“And almost all my scenes are with Michael Keaton, and he was so generous, so gentle, and it was so interesting to see the creative synergy between Tim and Michael through the years.”
Tim Burton returned along with Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara to direct a reportedly ‘stronger story’ by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for the sequel.
“There’s more of a connection for the audience in terms of the other characters,” the Beetlejuice actor explained in a previous chat with Total Film. “There’s things in here that I wasn’t ready for, that are beyond delightful. Instead of saying, ‘I can’t wait until this thing shows up,’ or, ‘I just want this thing called Beetlejuice to go nuts.’”
‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ will hit the theaters on September 6, 2024.
