James Cameron Prepares To Direct A ‘Ghosts Of Hiroshima’ Movie

The film will tell the story of a man who survived both atomic bombings.

Director James Cameron is gearing up to direct a movie based on Charles Pellegrino’s books ‘Ghosts of Hiroshima’ and ‘Last Train From Hiroshima.’

As per Deadline, Cameron recently bought the rights to ‘Ghosts of Hiroshima.’ The book is set to be published in August 2025 to mark the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

‘Last Train From Hiroshima’ will tell the true story of a Japanese man who survived both atomic bombings during World War II. He lived through the explosion in Hiroshima and took a train to Nagasaki, where he experienced another bomb blast.

Cameron has been interested in bringing this story to the big screen for over 20 years. The movie will be his first narrative feature outside of the ‘Avatar’ franchise since he directed ‘Titanic’ in 1997.

The project is expected to start once Cameron is done with his ongoing work on the ‘Avatar’ sequels. He plans to work with Shane Salerno on the screenplay. Salerno also helped with the script for ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ and will continue working with Cameron on future ‘Avatar’ movies.

Cameron and Pellegrino worked together before. Pellegrino served as a science consultant for ‘Avatar’ and ‘Titanic.’
