Stephen Amell Blames Warner Bros. For Killing ‘Arrow’ Movie Plans

Stephen Amell said Warner Bros. stopped plans for a movie.

During a recent appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, Stephen Amell claimed Warner Bros. ruined movie plans for ‘Arrow.’

“I mean, I joked about it,” the actor talked about the idea of bringing ‘Arrow’ back. “Because I think that it would be wonderful one of these days to go back and do something that was in a medium where I could break bones and drop an F-bomb and just sort of go the ‘hard r’ [rating] version of ‘Arrow.'”

“To my understanding, it just got killed at the studio level from people that, I think, were making decisions… that were fear-based,” he continued, referring to the fact that the movie plan didn’t get approved by the studio although it would be fun.

It’s unclear when the idea for an Arrow movie came up, but ‘Arrow’ was a big deal for DC TV. It was popular with both critics and fans and led to the creation of the Arrowverse, a series of connected DC shows on The CW, including ‘The Flash,’ ‘Supergirl,’ ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,’ ‘Black Lightning,’ and ‘Batwoman.’

‘Arrow’ ended in 2020 after its eighth season. In a Facebook Live stream, Amell said he decided to leave the role because his life has changed. “I approached [producer] Greg Berlanti and said that I thought both personally and professionally that at the end of my commitment this coming season, it would be the best for me to move on,” the actor explained.

Amell added, “I’ve always been a fan of television shows that not only don’t overstay their welcome, but end in a manner that really packs a punch. It had always been my hope that we would know when we were going to finish this journey and not limp to the finish line, so to speak.”

“This feels strange and it’s certainly not the end, but it is the beginning of the end,” he also noted. “This show has given me a platform that extends so far beyond my ability to appear on your television 23 times a year.”

If ‘Arrow’ had a movie, it would be cool to see what story they’d use for Oliver, especially after his 2023 return. The movie would probably need the multiverse idea from ‘The Flash.’ Fans can still watch all ‘Arrow’ seasons on Blu-ray, DVD, or streaming.
