Aubrey Plaza On ‘Agatha All Along’ Being The Gayest Marvel Project, ‘It Better Be!’

The new ‘WandaVision’ spinoff made its debut on Disney+ yesterday, September 18.

Aubrey Plaza discussed the queer representation in ‘Agatha All Along’ at its premiere this week.

When reporters asked if she agreed that the miniseries was ‘the gayest Marvel project yet,’ the actress commented, “It better be, ’cause that’s what I signed up for! I think it is.”

The show introduced an openly gay character, Joe Locke’s Teen, and explored a previous relationship between Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness and Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal.

“It’s in the bones of the show for sure,” said Hahn about the queer elements of the spinoff. “I remember there being a ‘WandaVision’ drag brunch and that made us so happy. It’s the greatest tribute we could possibly ever have. So, that was something that was very important to Jac [Schaeffer], Mary [Livanos], and me when we were making this, making sure that element was still involved.”

‘Agatha All Along’ brought Hahn, Plaza, and Locke together for a quest to get Agatha’s powers back after escaping Wanda Maximoff’s Hex in Westview. The cast also featured Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili, along with Debra Jo Rupp and Patti LuPone.

The first two episodes, directed by Jac Schaeffer, are now available on Disney+. The series will continue to release new episodes weekly until the end of October.
