David Corenswet Admits Turning Into ‘Superman’ Didn’t Feel Great

He says putting on weight too fast made him feel unwell.

David Corenswet recently opened up about the challenges of getting ready for the Superman role.

In an interview on the Manly Things (sort of) podcast, Corenswet shared how gaining weight to become the Man of Steel wasn’t as easy as it seemed.

The actor said he was excited to take on a project that required him to build muscle. “Getting to bulk up for ‘Superman’ was… I was looking for an excuse to really throw on some weight. I thought 210 was going to make me happy, but then I got up to 238… I wasn’t 238 when we started shooting. 238 was my max,” he said.

“It didn’t feel great,” Corenswet then admitted. “I did it so quickly that my body just hadn’t adjusted to the extra weight… But that was at the peak of my bulk, and then I slowly lost weight before we started shooting. I started shooting at about 228. I put on one of those sweatshirts, and I was like an XL or double XL, and I was like, ‘I fill this out. This is amazing.’ I didn’t fit into any of my pants.”

Corenswet revealed that he originally thought 210 pounds would be enough, but he pushed himself to bulk up even more. His body wasn’t ready to handle the extra weight so quickly, and it seems this led to some physical discomfort.

Corenswet’s Superman is just the beginning of a big cinematic universe for DC. Other projects like ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ are also in development. There’s also a chance that Superman could appear in future sequels and crossover movies. This included a potential ‘Justice League’ film.

‘Superman’ hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
