Henry Cavill will be playing the lead role in ‘Voltron’ live-action film for Amazon MGM.
Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the movie and wrote the script with Ellen Shanman. Thurber previously directed Netflix’s ‘Red Notice’ and ‘Skyscraper.’ The plot is still a secret. Producers include Todd Lieberman, Bob Koplar, and David Hoberman.
Cavill will star alongside Daniel Quinn-Toye, a fresh face in film who has appeared in ‘Badults’ and was Tom Holland’s understudy in ‘Romeo & Juliet’ in the West End this spring.
The ‘Voltron’ TV series is about space explorers who control a giant robot. It was based on Japanese anime by Toei Animation and led to several U.S. versions, including Netflix’s eight-season ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender.’
The series aired from September 10, 1984, to November 18, 1985. The first season featured the ‘Lion Force Voltron,’ adapted from ‘Beast King GoLion.’ The second season introduced the ‘Vehicle Team Voltron,’ based on ‘Armored Fleet Dairugger XV.’ ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’ was the top-rated children’s show for two years.
The actor played a Wolverine version called ‘Cavillrine’ in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine.’ His other upcoming movies in 2024 are ‘Argylle,’ a spy comedy, and ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.’
Next, Cavill will act in the ‘Highlander’ reboot by Chad Stahelski and ‘In The Grey’ by Guy Ritchie, both from Lionsgate. He’s also an executive producer for the ‘Warhammer 40,000’ projects at Amazon MGM Studios.
“I’m a lover of the original movies for better or for worse, but, my goodness, me,” Cavill talked about the ‘Highlander’ reboot at CinemaCon. “What we are doing with this is… we are going deep into the meat of these characters and their trials and tribulations. If you thought you saw me do swordwork before, you ain’t seen nothing yet.”
The release date for the new ‘Voltron’ movie hasn’t been announced yet.
