Sarah Paulson says she’s tired of always being cast in scary movies and shows.
She recently told BuzzFeed that she feels like people only want her to scream and run from clowns. “You don’t understand that I’m a gentle, nice, charming, funny person,” she said, adding, “I want someone to put me in a f*cking comedy, nobody puts me in a comedy.”
After starring in nine seasons of ‘American Horror Story’ and movies like ‘Run’ and ‘Bird Box,’ Paulson feels like she’s been stuck in horror roles. She says she wants a change. “I would like to do a buddy picture with [Cate Blanchett,]” she admits. “There’s something no one asks Blanchett to do, and no one asked me to do either, which is a comedy. And she’s really funny. So I’d like to do that.”
Paulson and Blanchett worked together before in ‘Carol,’ ‘Mrs. America,’ and the heist movie ‘Ocean’s 8,’ but it seems Paulson wants to make a comedy with her.
The actress did comedy before, though. She’s been in romantic comedies like ‘Down With Love’ and ‘Griffin and Phoenix.’ She also recently got an Emmy nomination for her role in the ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ episode, ‘Couples Therapy (Naked & Afraid),’ which had dark humor. She said she still loves playing roles in horror. “My favorite thing about the horror genre is that you get to play extremes,” she says. “Really, really high stakes, everything is really important.”
Paulson’s last appearance on ‘American Horror Story’ was in 2021 when she played Mamie Eisenhower and Tuberculosis Karen in the ‘Double Feature’ season. She hinted that she might not be able to stay away for long, saying earlier this month that there’s a ‘big chance’ she’ll return to the show. She called it her ‘home’ and said she’d love to be part of it again.
