Matthew Lillard Confirms Scream’s Stu Macher Still Alive

The actor is open to returning to the role—under one condition.

Matthew Lillard recently revealed on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ that Stu Macher from the original ‘Scream’ movie is still alive. “Listen, Stu is definitely alive,” he said in an Instagram video from the interview before noting that he would ‘love’ to reprise the role.

“Look, if it made sense for the franchise… then sure, I would,” the actor added. “I’m very sl*tty.”

Stu and Sidney Prescott’s boyfriend Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) committed the Woodsboro murders behind the Ghostface mask in the 1996 film. Stu seemingly died in the end after Billy stabbed and Sidney electrocuted him.

Still, Lillard’s return doesn’t seem impossible, considering Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette have already come back at different points. Loomis also appeared in a flashback in ‘Scream 5.’

The franchise is now bringing Campbell back again for its seventh installment on February 27, 2026. The actress has appeared in all the ‘Scream’ movies except for the sixth one so far.

Cox’s involvement in the next movie, on the other hand, is unclear, as she previously said there have been no official offers yet. But original writer Kevin Williamson is confirmed to direct ‘Scream 7.’
