James Gunn explained on Threads why DC Studios stands out from Marvel Studios.
The director, who worked with Marvel Studios for 10 years, wants to do things differently at DC Studios. Marvel is known for fixing projects with reshoots, but Gunn has a different vision. He was asked on Threads if DC Studios would have an MCU-style slate reveal.
“It won’t be exactly like Marvel because nothing is greenlit before we have a finished script,” Gunn responded to the question.
Fans saw that DC Studios announced 10 movies and TV shows for ‘Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters,’ even though some, like ‘The Brave and the Bold’ and ‘Paradise Lost,’ don’t have full scripts yet. This made some wonder if Gunn is being inconsistent.
But he’s not. Gunn explained that there’s a difference between projects that are just announced and those that are officially approved. He might not have wanted to share so many details so quickly, but Warner Bros. Discovery probably wanted to build excitement.
Some fans have complained that DC Studios isn’t attending events like Comic-Con and CCXP to share release dates and logos. But Gunn wants to do things differently from Marvel and avoid the mistakes of the DCEU.
Will shows like ‘Swamp Thing’ and ‘Booster Gold’ ever happen? We’ll have to wait and see. For now, ‘Creature Commandos’ is coming next month, and ‘Superman’ and ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 are set for 2025. ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ and ‘Lanterns’ are planned for 2026.
“We’re not about that. We’re not about ‘See how it does,'” Gunn recently explained. “We’ve got one opportunity to take these characters and really press forward and do what we believe.”
“I am a great believer that if we tell good, authentic stories, if a movie does well or doesn’t do as well, if you keep with that same philosophy, that you’re going to build a universe that people are going to love and want to be a part of for a long time,” he added.
Right now, ‘Superman’ is the only DCU movie in post-production. It will be the first DCU film and is set to release on July 11, 2025.
