As per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is gearing up for another journey back into Westeros with a new ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff, and it comes with a twist that ties it to the dark streets of Gotham: Mattson Tomlin, known for his work on ‘The Batman Part II,’ is at the helm of development.
According to THR, HBO confirmed the development of the new series, which will center on Aegon Targaryen and his conquest of Westeros, accompanied by his sister wives, Rhaenys and Visenya. Their journey led to the unification of six of the Seven Kingdoms under their rule, with Dorne being the only region to resist successfully.
The series also serves as a direct prequel to ‘House of the Dragon.’
‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 is On the Way
HBO has made several attempts to expand the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe since the original series concluded in 2019. While several ideas for prequels and sequels have been explored, only a few have made it past the development stage.
Among these, ‘House of the Dragon’ has already seen success, with its second season approaching. Another project, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,’ based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, is set to start production this year.
In related news, Matt Smith, who portrays Daemon Targaryen in ‘House of the Dragon,’ shared an update on the series’ second season, hinting at a summer release. The upcoming season promises eight episodes. Discussions for the third and fourth seasons of ‘House of the Dragon’ are already underway.
Meanwhile, Tomlin is currently working on adapting the Keanu Reeves action comic ‘BRZRKR’ and showrunning an animated ‘Terminator’ series for Netflix.
