James Gunn Reveals David Corenswet’s First Look As Superman

The new ‘Superman’ movie is nearly finished with filming. Its release is due on July 11, 2025.

James Gunn recently released the first official image of David Corenswet in the full Superman costume on Threads. The background showed what looks like an alien attack over Metropolis with the caption ‘Get ready!’

Gunn mentioned in another post that the photo was taken by Jess Miglio on set ‘and was entirely in-camera.’ The update followed the first look at the new House of El symbol from March.

You can check out the costume below:

What The First Look Includes

The updated costume seems to blend spandex with armor, and is similar to the designs in Superman’s DC Rebirth series. The cape looks like the one from ‘All-Star Superman.’

The suit features detailed lines instead of the previous textured look. The ‘S’ shield gives a worn appearance and hints that Corenswet’s Clark Kent had been through several battles by this point in the movie.

Fans Like The New Live-Action Design

The new photo look also gives a glimpse into the red underpants under Superman’s belt in a nod to the older designs. Many fans were happy about this in the comments section:

“Thank you for restoring the red underpants.”

Someone else wrote:

“Underpants! Hooray!”

The design for Gunn’s rebooted film also brought the famous curl back.
